How'd she do this?

I came across this picture for an art opening somewhere and was intrigued with the technique. Is she gluing it on the wall, transferring it somehow or merely figuring out the placement on the wall for painting?

So here's the finished wall. It looks painted. Still not sure how it was done.

This is just great storage and wall usage. Kind of looks like Ikea, but not sure.
