Workshop at The Grainery

Workshop at the Grainery

Tie transfer is an eco-friendly, re-purposing, technique of transferring the color as well as the design details of silk ties and scarves onto fabric or paper.  It's a little like magic in that it's always a surprise when you open up your finished scarf (that's what we'll be making that day).  The technique has been featured in the two publications listed below and I'll tell you the story of how I developed this technique the day of the class.

Pictured below are to samples of the scarf detail.

Bring a few (4-6)  silk ties if you have them  and a pair of scissors.  We will be cutting the ties up and submerging them in a water bath.

This is a wonderful way to remember someone by transferring their ties onto a scarf.  It is also a beautiful way to make some fabric or paper for your own artistic uses.

Three Cool ideas on this hot summer day....

Love the unexpected mobile above the table.  It doesn't always have to be a chandelier does it?

I love shutters.  Old or new.  I love this concept, but I think I'd paint them all the same color.  Great texture.  By the way, they were installed on lathing applied to the wall behind them.

I just think this is a lovely room.  The textures, simplicity, etc. are great.

Chalk Board and Simplicity

Sometimes Less is more.  These pillows are really great.

I really love this idea.  Could be used in any number of rooms, in addition to a child's room.  Clever.

A little bit of everything

Time to figure out the summer wardrobe.  Isn't this paper dress cute.  What a cute banner it could make with several dresses across is.

The painted details of these plates are lovely.  I was once a china painter.  These are soft, colorful and lovely.

I love the way the colorful art brings life to this very neutral room.

It's that time of Year...

It's the time of year when all plants look gorgeous and our thoughts turn to what will be outside soon.

I love the idea of appliqueing on a chair.  Love the lace around the edge and the painted legs.  Very Cute.

Wish I had a potting table and back terrace like this one.  Lovely, Mediterranean, Rustic and just great!

Love the silhouette dogs and the way they are framed, not centered.  Also like the exposed lamp wire frames.

I think this lampshade is very cool and very textile.

Fabric mixing and calm colors

          I love the color mixes and the many fabrics on this bench.
      On something bigger it might be too much, but here it is just right.



      This is a very calming room, and if you're going to do a calm room, the bedroom is the place to do that.

I love love love the bathroom at the top.  And the print on this pillow is inspiring.
